Cikiray Village, Purpose of Bamboo Weaving Crafts in Tasikmalaya

Tasikmalaya - Cikiray Village, Salawu Village, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, is known as Bambu Tenun Village. The majority of residents of Cikiray Village work as bamboo weaving craftsmen. Young people for parents in the village remain productive in weaving.
"Yes, about 90 percent of the population is bamboo weavers. There are more than 600 families living there, and almost all of them are bamboo weavers," said Salawu Village Secretary, Iis Sulastri to detikJabar, Wednesday (12/2 /25 ).
every day, the houses in Cikiray Village are filled with the busy weaving. Residents chose their terrace as a place to weave crafts. Various types of bamboo woven products are produced, such as a basket that launches, traditional baskets, decorative lights, tissue boxes, mineral water boxes and parcel baskets.
What is more amazing is that woven products from residents have been sold to various cities in Indonesia. In fact, the decoration of woven lights and bamboo network boxes has been exported to Japan and Malaysia.
"Some products have been exported to Japan and Malaysia. Of course this is a source of pride for us. In addition to financially, the economic needs of the community are met," said Iis Sarisri.
Because of its uniqueness, Cikiray Village has become part of a village tourist. Tourists can come to the village to buy handicrafts directly. Traditional Tuties and Angklung art is ready to welcome tourists.
"Because of its unique characteristics, this village has become part of the tourist village that we have prepared. Yesterday there was also a visit from Jogja. Alhamdulillah increasingly known," said Iis Sarisri
A craftsman who is also the Head of RT Di Cikiray, Nandang Sutisna, acknowledged that bamboo weaving activities have been deployed for hundreds of years. In fact, there are also weaving training for beginners at the location. "
" Yes, it has been passed down from our great -grandfather for hundreds of years. We used to learn to weave automatically, even though there is training, "said Nandang Sutisna.

"Yes, the attention of the government regency tasik, there is. We certainly hope that there will be another capital. Maintaining the sustainability of this weavers is a joint task. So that our generation can enjoy weaving if the results are good," said Nandang Sutisna.
Secretary of the Tourism, Youth and Sports Office (Dispora) from Tasikmalaya Regency, Dodi Ajat Sudrajat, emphasized that Cikiray Village is an asset that must be preserved. This village is able to increase competitiveness in the tourism and economic sector of the community.
